The course appears to be experiencing a resurgence. I make annual visits to Lake Wales, and this course is the most convenient option for me. At approximately $30 after 1 PM, including a cart, it is a favorable choice, especially considering the alternative of a longer commute in traffic. While the greens are slow and show some spotting, they remain playable. The tee boxes and fairways are somewhat overgrown, likely a deliberate strategy to promote recovery through overseeding. The rough is currently less maintained, adding a distinctive characteristic to the course. The layout is satisfactory, with the option to play from the tips for a more challenging experience. The pace of play can vary, but the staff is consistently friendly.

We were a group of five. Booked two tee times but they only put us down for one. The guy told us no problem - we could go together.
The guy running the pro shop couldn’t figure out how to run the computer so it took 10 minutes to collect our money.
The boss and his group of eight played behind up and though they only caught us at one hole, sent the ranger after us to play in two groups (our original plan).
They didn’t play any better or faster than we were. 🤣🤣🤣🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
1:45 minutes to play nine holes and they were nowhere in sight so we were “rushed” for nothing.

It is an older establishment and a little run down. Went for dinner and had reservations. When we entered the dining area, no one greeted us or seated us. Only two people to wait on the entire dining customers. Food was just average but our server was very sweet and efficient.

We played here on Friday January 3rd 2025. I have not played here since last winter. lake Wales has redone their fairways, greens, and tee boxes. It is a diamond in the rough! I’m afraid to post this because I don’t want everyone to flock here. This is the best course in Polk County and I will play here every outing until I cannot play no more. You are an idiot if you don’t try this course.

Well… I’m pretty sure Donald Ross didn’t intend for these conditions when he built the course a 100 years ago. It’s soooo bad. The first red flag was the dilapidated bag drop. The 2nd one was the empty proshop. The tee boxes are 2/3 bare. The fairways are (if you can even define were they start and stop) is patchy. By patchy l mean you need to find a patch of grass that exists. When the app asked if l landed in the fairway l wanted to answer - maybe… The bunkers are semi-defined, but thin. The greens were coated with this fine sand/powder mix. When you putt it would leave a trail, but usually it was not a complete line. It was a dash, dash, dash, because the ball bounced so much. It’s such a shame, because the layout was classic Ross. Green to tee were close. Elevated greens. Multiple options - driver or 3W. Loved the layout. I bet it was amazing 20-40 years ago. There was one good thing. I played it in literally 2 hours. There were literally 6 cars in the parking lot. That’s where the good ended.
